Sears Recalls Kenmore Dehumidifiers Due to Fire Hazard

Sears announced total recall of 795,000 units of their Kenmore Dehumidifiers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission states that the product “can overheat, smoke, melt and catch on fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.”

The product was previously recalled voluntarily in August 2012. Since then, Sears has received seven additional incident reports of shorting and fire. In one incident a consumer’s foot was severely burned and in three other incidents, fires resulted in more than $300,000 in property damage.

Consumers who have this product in their homes should immediately turn off and unplug the dehumidifier and contact the Recall Fulfillment Center of Sears to receive a gift card of varying amounts based on the capacity and year of the product.
